Interventions

At Affinity Therapy Service, I provide three core interventions designed to support children, families, and carers. My approach includes Play Therapy to help children express emotions, Therapeutic Parenting to strengthen family bonds, and DDP-Informed practice to foster trust, safety, and secure relationships.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy - Developmentally, under the age of twelve, children find it difficult to verbalise their feelings.

Play is a child’s natural form of expression and through the use of toys and other objects in the playroom, play helps children to make sense of their world, and their experiences. I have a wide range of resources and materials which children and young people can use to express themselves in any way they want to, using puppets, sand, small world figures, role play, creative arts, dance and
movement.

As a person-centred therapist, I am there to follow the child and be alongside them without asking questions but observing their play and their behaviours and what it is like from the child’s perspective. I offer a safe and warm environment which is nurturing and accepting and allows for connection whilst at the same time setting goals which will lead to progress and more manageable ways of communicating.

Sessions are for 45 minutes:
Fees: £55.00 per session. Review: £50.00.

Theraputic Parenting

This is a holistic approach to parenting, working with parents/carers and helping to understand their child’s behaviours and actions and looking at them through a more therapeutic lens.

Sessions are usually held remotely, although I can offer face to face at my therapy room. Together we find different alternatives in how to deal with some of the behaviours that their child presents with. Some of the adopted and looked after children that I work with have experienced traumatic experiences which have left them feeling terrified and mistrusting of the adults around them.

I support parents and carers by offering them a six-week parenting programme, which gives them the psychoeducation they need in order to understand the complexities of their child’s early trauma. It encourages parents and carers to build a stronger connection with
their child coming from a place of love, nurture and empathy.

Sessions are for 1 hour:
Fees: £65.00 per session. Review: £50.00.

DDP Informed

This intervention works with the parents initially and provides a therapeutic approach to support children who do not trust their parent/ caregivers and to strengthen the relationship between them.

Similar to the Therapeutic Parenting, DDP enables children who have experienced relational trauma within their original family to benefit from new relational experiences that are crucial for their development.

The child is then invited to join the sessions, alongside their parent/caregiver and helps children to learn to identify, regulate and express their emotional states and provide them with the experiences that teach them how to seek comfort, resolve conflicts and engage
in relationship repair.

Sessions are for 1 hour:
Fees: £65.00 per session. Review: £50.00.

Sessions can be held on-line or face to face.
I have a therapy room based at Sovereign House in Cheadle.
